Early voting for General Election begins Friday

Voters in Sequatchie County cab begin casting their ballots for a number of different offices beginning Friday, July 17. Early voting in the General Election and State/Federal Primary takes place through Saturday, August 1, at the Sequatchie County Election Commission office, adjacent to the Sequatchie County Courthouse on Spring Street. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is Monday, July 27.
Early voting is from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9:00 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
Election Day is Thursday, August 6, at precincts throughout the county. For questions on voting, contact the Sequatchie County Election Commission at 423-949-2431 or visit the office.
Locally, the 2026 General Election includes several contested races. Some candidates ran as Democrat or Republican in the primary election earlier this year and won, while others are running as Independents and were not required to be part of the primary.
Running for Sequatchie County Sheriff are Republican nominee/incumbent Bill Phillips, along with Independent challengers Clifford Camp and Scott “Scott O.” Ogrodowczyk.
Several others are on the ballot as Independents and have no competition. They include incumbent Register of Deeds Kendra Boyd, County Executive D. Keith Cartwright, Road Superintendent Eric Higgins, Circuit Court Clerk Karen Millsaps, and Trustee Larry S. Lockhart. Incumbent Lana J. Waters [R] is running for County Clerk unopposed.
A number of candidates are seeking the Sequatchie County Commission posts in their districts. Each district has two members of the commission.
Candidates in District 1 are incumbents Linda M. Lewandowski [R] and Chester Shell [R].
Running in District 2 are incumbents, Blaine Layne [R] and Brian Ruehling [R].
In District 3, candidates are incumbents Jimbo Breland [R] and Bryan Walker [R], with Independent challengers Greg Dawson and Melinda Farley.
From District 4, Independent candidates/incumbents Joyce Dotson and James Wilson are being challenged by Wallace Cunningham [R].
District 5 has three candidates on the ballot, incumbents Jeff Barger [I] and Paul D. Powell [I], with challenger Shaun Hughes [R].
District 6 has six candidates, seeking the two available posts. Incumbents Michael Hudson [I] and June Dishman Smith [I] are seeking a return to office, but are being opposed by Paul Thomas Mahoney II [R] plus Independents Timothy Barrett Sr, Roger Frizzell, and Katie Rae Johnson.
For District 7, running on the ballot are incumbent Susie Christian Bostic [R], and Kevin Snyder [R].
District 8 has two Republican incumbents and two Democratic nominees vying for the district’s seats. Running are incumbents Wayne Clemons [R] and Tommy Johnson [R], plus Edgar DeYoe [D] and Bill Lusk [D].
District 9 has four candidates. They are incumbent Jeffrey Mackey [R], along with Ed McDonald [R], Jane Wheeler Mauldin [D] and Jerry Frizzell Jr. [I]
Four incumbents, each running as an Independent, are on the ballot for the Sequatchie County Board of Education. They include Gregory K. Johnson, District 2; JoAnn Shepherd, District 4; Marlene Basham, District 6; and Debbie Adams, District 8.
Several constable races are being decided with one from each district elected. Candidates on the ballot are, District 1, C. Wayne Orr [I], District 2; James “J.D.” Hixson [R], and Cameron Rust [I]; District 3, Michael Scoggins [R]; District 4, Jordan Reel [R]; District 8, William T. Lewis [I]; and District 9, Marty Tate [I].
Sequatchie County voters will help decide which candidates advance from the August State and Federal Primary to the November 3 State and Federal General Election.
Candidates on the Democratic State Primary ballot vying for their party’s nomination for Governor include Carnita Atwater, Tim Cyr, Jerri Green, Adam “Ditch” Kurtz, and Kevin Lee McCants; for Tennessee House of Representatives, District 31, Michael Woodlee; State Executive Committeeman, District 10, Chris Anderson; and State Executive Committeewoman, District 10, Heather McClendon.
Republican candidates on the State primary ballot for Governor are Marsha Blackburn, Monty Fritts, and John Rose; Tennessee House of Representatives, District 31, Harold “Bo” McCawley and Andy “Andrew” J. Swafford; State Executive Committeeman, District 10, Kenneth J. “Ken” Meyer; and State Executive Committeewoman, District 10, Emily Goldberg.
On the Federal primary ballot for United States Senate are Democrats Marquita Bradshaw, Maria Brewer, Kevin Lee McCants, Civil Miller-Watkins, and Diana Onyejiaka; United States House of Representatives, District 4, Victoria Broderick, Mike Cortese, Cliff Huffman, Tim Lanier, and Joyce E. Neal;
Republican Federal primary candidates on the ballot are United States Senate, Bill Hagerty; United States House of Representatives, District 4, Thomas E. Davis, Scott DesJarlais (incumbent), Joshua James, and Harold “Rocky” Jones.
The voter registration deadline for the November election is October 5, with early voting taking place from October 14-29. The absentee ballot request deadline is October 24.
