A bridge replacement project on East Valley Road in Sequatchie County has begun, reports Road Superintendent Eric Higgins. The work is necessary to improve safety on the heavily traveled roadway with a number of accidents taking place over the years, he said.
“We’ve had a lot of drivers lose their side mirrors or scrape other vehicles, driving over this bridge,” said Higgins.
The bridge is located at Barker Branch approximately 1.5 miles south of the East Valley Road and Old York Highway intersection. Costs for the replacement bridge is funded by a Tennessee Department of Transportation grant, Higgins added.
Multiple signs along East Valley Road have been placed to alert drivers of the closure, beginning at the East Valley Road and Old York Highway intersection. Construction is scheduled to take about 120 days, depending on weather conditions during the next few months with the road set to re-open in December.
