A historical building in Dunlap most recently serving as an auto repair shop is opening as a different type of service, as a restaurant. The former Pan-Am, Amoco, and Cars LLC location, after months of renovation, will be the site of Fix’nz 4 The Soul.
Building owner Marie Layne explained the Pan-Am service station opened on Rankin Avenue in 1955.
“Houston and Cathy Cunningham ran the Amoco station there for many years, before I purchased the property in 2018 from Cathy,” Layne said. “I loved the property and its location.”
Gas tanks were pulled and new painting and concrete led to the property being leased to Cars LLC, a vehicle service center, from 2018 to this year.
A complete transformation in recent months has included a new tin roof, painting, and more, said Layne. Lighting fixtures and the black glass doors gives the building a unique look, Layne added, with more work to go mostly outside.
“We wanted to make it red and white as much as we could, like the original building in 1955,” she said. “The crew working with me has done an exceptional job. We’re going for a rustic look. Painting and replacing glass was a task. Restroom improvements, and HVAC remodeling has also taken place.”
Layne is appreciative of all the support received in the restoration and invites everyone to see the historic building.
