Benny Jackson Barker

Benny Jackson Barker was born September 6, 1953 in Chattanooga, but his home was his beloved town of Dunlap, where he lived all his life. He went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 4, 2025.

Benny graduated from Sequatchie County High School and was a proud graduate of the Class of 1971. He was voted vice president of his senior class. From there he worked for Dupont, Tennessee Amusement and established Barker Electric in 1994. He and his wife, Beverly, owned and operated Flowers and Thyme for 19 years. He retired from the Sequatchie County School system and he was voted Alum of the year.

He served on the Sequatchie County Election Commission for many years. Spent countless hours volunteering his time to the Sequatchie County Cancer Society and using his skills as an electrician to power many projects throughout the valley.

Benny is survived by his loving wife, Beverly June Barker, of 33 years. His beloved son, Zach Barker (Catherine Lawrence); daughter, Amanda (Darla) Hickman; the apple of his eye, granddaughter Emberly June Barker; sister, Mary-Grace (John) Panter; nephew, Jonathan (Andrea) Panter; great niece and nephew, Emily and Eli Panter; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents that he cherished so deeply, Joe and Helen Barker; grandparents, Dr. John F. and Emma Davis Barker and Bill and Myrtle Lockhart; and in-laws, Roy and Venia Smith.

Benny was the life of the “party”. To those who knew him, Benny will be remembered for his joy of life, overwhelming laughter, and his deep-rooted faith in Jesus. Most of all, Benny will be remembered for his love of family.

Graveside services were held at Chapel Hill Cemetery on Monday October 6. Serving as pallbearers were Jonathan Panter, Steve Lockhart, Junior Lockhart, Billy Johnson, Donny Johnson and Nathan Barker.
