Fireworks sales directly aiding volunteers serving the community are taking place this holiday week at familiar locations in Dunlap. The Sequatchie County Rescue Squad is selling fireworks that can be enjoyed by families and those seeking larger explosions, as is the Dunlap Fire Department.
The Rescue Squad is located on Rankin Avenue across from Elder’s Ace Hardware. The fire department’s sales trailer is on Lane Road between Rankin and Main Street, behind Dairy Queen. Both organizations will sell into the evening each night through the July 4 holiday. Families are reminded buyers must be age 16 or older.
The National Safety Council is reminding those using fireworks, no matter the size, of normal safety guidelines that can keep the holiday fun and exciting for everyone. Tips include the following:
•Never allow young children to handle fireworks
•Older children should use fireworks only under close supervision
•Never light fireworks indoors and avoid use while impaired by drugs or alcohol
•Use fireworks away from people, homes, and any flammable material
•Never point fireworks at any people or animals
•Only light one device at a time
•Consider leaving large displays to those with experience
•Do not try to re-light malfunctioning fireworks
•Soak spent and unused fireworks in water before disposal
•Keep a bucket of water or water hose nearby in case it is needed
In addition, those with neighbors or relatives who may be disturbed by fireworks should check on them, and pets that could be frightened should be brought indoors if possible.
