The investigation into a fatal wreck that occurred on Friday, June 19, on Cagle Mountain in Sequatchie County has been released by the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP). A woman and child lost their lives in vehicle and semi-truck collision, while others were injured and received medical treatment, according to the THP.
The driver of a Ford Expedition Cynthia A. Paulie, 69, of Indiana and a six-year-old passenger lost their lives in the wreck. Other passengers in the Expedition were listed as receiving undisclosed injuries and included Meredith Allen, 42, and two juvenile passengers ages six and nine.
Driving the other vehicle involved, a 2017 Mack truck tractor trailer, was Andrew J. Tomkins, 56, of Tennessee. Tomkins was also injured, the THP reported.
According to the THP report, the Expedition was traveling north on State Route 8 (State Route 111) at 2:09 p.m. and the Mack truck was traveling south. The Expedition was unable to maintain its lane of travel, crossed the center lane and struck the Mack truck, THP continued. The Mack truck then traveled off the highway and struck a utility pole.
A number of emergency personnel responded to the scene and to nearby roads, routing traffic around the wreck site.
Those working for several hours included Cagle Volunteer Fire Department, Dunlap Fire Department, Life Force air medical, Piney Volunteer Fire Department, Puckett EMS, Sequatchie County Rescue Squad, Sequatchie County Sheriff’s Office, and THP. Sequachee Valley Electric Cooperative restored power due to the downed utility pole.
