John “Edward” Barker

John “ Edward” Barker, 80, of Dunlap, Tennessee passed from this life on March 9, 2026.

He was a beloved husband, father and Papaw. He was a member of Chapel Hill Methodist Church and a good man who loved the Lord and believed in doing the right thing, even if it was hard. He enjoyed fishing, bird hunting, growing tomatoes and tending cows on the farm. He spent his whole life living on the family farm and was the seventh generation to farm it. He retired from DuPont in 2003 after 40 years. He always had a funny comment, a smile on his face and a good laugh. He loved his family deeply and would do anything for them, usually knowing exactly how any task needed to be done because he was full of knowledge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Grady & Marea Barker.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 61 years, Lana Boyd Barker; children Karla (Shane) McDonough and Michael (Laura) Barker; grandchildren, Bradley (Brittany) McDonough, Jessica (Vance) Elmore, Ashley (Riley) Phillips, Caitlin “Cate” Barker and Mia Barker; great-grandchildren, Abigail and Asher Elmore; and brother, Hugh Barker.

A graveside service to celebrate his life was held Wednesday March 11 at Chapel Hill Cemetery.

Ewton Funeral Home & Cremation Center was in charge of arrangements for Mr. John “Edward” Barker, and ask that you share your memories and condolences on its website at www.ewtonfuneralhome.com.
