Valentines for 72 years and always

Young love starts a lot of times by friends playing matchmaker. This was the case for Norman Podney Jones and Betty Sue Gross. They met on a double date planned by Betty’s brother, Bob, and Podney’s cousin, Lora Mae, in December 1952. A few months later, Bob and Lora Mae were talking about getting married and Podney and Betty said they wanted to get married, too, so the couples had a double wedding on March 18, 1953 in Rossville, Georgia.

“When I first met Podney, he had a new car and I thought he was rich,” laughed Betty. “He fooled me.”
