A Chattanooga man was charged with drug offenses following a routine traffic stop, Dunlap Police Department (DPD) Chief Randy Phillips reported. Arrested was John J. Stephens.
Chief Phillips stated on June 7, DPD officers initiated the stop on a red Kia sedan due to its malfunctioning tail lights after dark. The stop took place in the area of the Highway 111 and US Highway 127 ramp.
“The driver, Stephens, was arrested after a plain-view search of the vehicle when officers discovered approximately 31.2 grams of a white crystal-type substance believed to be meth,” Chief Phillips said. “Approximately 4.7 grams of a green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana was also discovered.”
Stephens was charged with felony possession of meth, simple possession of marijuana, and driving while in possession of meth. A court date for the suspect is pending.
