Dakota Johnston was taken into custody following a brief foot pursuit on May 3, reported Dunlap Police Chief Randy Phillips. The suspect reportedly had a large amount of drugs, a weapon, and drug paraphernalia in his possession, plus there were active warrants for his arrest.
Chief Phillips stated, Dunlap Police Department officers observed a vehicle driving erratically on Walnut Street and a traffic stop was initiated on Old York Highway.
The driver, Johnston, refused commands and fled on foot but was quickly located and taken into custody. Once a positive identification was made, authorities discovered Johnston had active warrant for his arrest for charges of domestic assault and aggravated assault where a handgun was reportedly used.
“A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of a Glock 19 handgun, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and additional narcotic-related items,” Chief Phillips said. “The total weight of the recovered substances was approximately 56.2 grams.”
Johnston’s charges include possession of a handgun during the commission of a felony; felony possession of a Schedule VI Controlled Substance; unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia; evading arrest; and resisting stop, frisk, halt, arrest, or search.
Johnston had a bond of $5,000 set on prior charges of aggravated assault and domestic assault in Sessions Court. Johnston is being held without bond on his separate charges in Dunlap City Court.
