Early voting concluded April 30 and the Sequatchie Primary Election with precinct voting is set for Tuesday, May 5. As of Monday, April 27, a total of 440 voters had made early selections for either the Democratic or Republican candidates. Those winning their respective party’s nomination in the primary will move on to the August General Election to face off with any Independent candidates vying for positions.
Several candidates in the Primary are running for the Sequatchie County Commission. Each district has two commissioners.
Candidates for Sequatchie County Commission, District 1, are incumbents Linda M. Lewandowski [R] and Chester Shell [R], along with Chris Cordell [R] and Michael L. Grant [R].
District 2 candidates in the Primary are incumbents Blaine Layne [R] and Brian Ruehling [R].
Jimbo Breland [R] and Bryan Walker [R] are on the ballot for County Commission, District 3. Both are incumbents.
For District 4, running is Wallace Cunningham [R].
Shaun Hughes [R] is seeking the County Commission, District 5 position.
For District 6, Paul Thomas Mahoney II [R] is running for County Commission.
Three candidates are in the Primary for County Commission, District 7. They include incumbents Susie Christian Bostic [R] and Frank Silver [R], along with Kevin Snyder [R].
District 8 has five candidates for County Commission, with incumbents Wayne Clemons [R] and Tommy Johnson [R], plus Edgar DeYoe [D], Bill Lusk [D], and Lou Rodela [R].
For District 9, candidates in the Primary are Jeffrey Mackey [R], plus Jane Wheeler Mauldin [D] and Ed McDonald [R].
Keith Cartwright [R] is seeking a return to the office of County Executive.
Running for re-election as Sheriff is Bill Phillips [R].
Lana Waters [R] is seeking to return as County Clerk.
James J.D. Hixson [R] and David Edward Smith [R] are on the ballot for County Constable, District 2.
Michael Wayne Scoggins [R] is running for County Constable, District 3.
Jordan Hunter Reel [R] is a candidate for County Constable, District 4.
The Sequatchie County General Election takes place August 6, with candidates running as independents in local races to be included along with primary winners from May.
Independent candidates qualifying and set to run for County Commission in August are Greg Dawson and Melinda Farley, District 3; incumbents Joyce Dotson and James Wilson, District 4; incumbents Jeff Barger and Paul D. Powell, District 5; incumbents Michael Hudson and June Dishman Smith, along with Timothy Barrett Sr., Roger Frizzell, and Katie Rae Johnson in District 6; and Jerry Frizzell Jr. in District 9.
Other incumbents seeking to return to office as independents are Circuit Court Clerk Karen Millsaps, Trustee Larry S. Lockhart, Register of Deeds Kendra Boyd, and Road Superintendent Eric Higgins.
Seeking the office of sheriff are independents Clifford Camp and Scott “Scott O.” Ogrodowcyzk.
School board members running for re-election as independents are Gregory K. Johnson, District 2; JoAnn Shepherd, District 4; Marlene Basham, District 6; and Debbie Adams, District 8.
Constable candidates running as independents are C. Wayne Orr, District 1; Cameron Rust, District 2; William T. Lewis, District 8; and Marty Tate, District 9.
