Carl Edward Roberts

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Carl Edward Roberts (Ed), 68, passed away on January 21, 2025.

Born on May 3, 1956 in Denver, Colorado, Ed was a beloved family member, dedicated friend, and passionate outdoors man who was always ready to lend a helping hand to family, friends and strangers. Known for his quick wit and sense of humor, he touched the lives of everyone around him. As a child, Ed was endlessly curious and creative. He loved tinkering with Legos, studying clock mechanisms, and exploring anything mechanical. This early fascination with how things worked stayed with him throughout his life, shaping his love for hands-on work. When his father once asked him what he wanted to do when he grew up, Ed’s memorable reply was, “Open a Think Factory.”

Ed graduated from Bear Creek High School in Morrison, Colorado in 1974. Following in his father’s footsteps, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 18, where he served his country with dedication and pride. His time in the Navy gave him a sense of discipline, loyalty, love of adventure and a “can do” attitude. After his service, Ed became a skilled concrete truck driver, a career where he contributed to countless projects, including helping build many of the iconic casinos in Las Vegas. His strong work ethic and precision made him a sought-after professional in his field.

In his personal life, Ed’s love of mechanics found expression in his hobby of rebuilding

cars and motorboats. He loved the satisfaction of taking something apart, understanding it, and bringing it back to life. He enjoyed exploring lakes in motorboats, finding peace on the water. As a young man, Ed was an accomplished water skier, spending many joyful hours on the water. Music was another of Ed’s passions. A lifelong fan of rock and roll, he began playing drums as a teenager, and his love for rhythm brought energy and joy to those around him. Whether he was playing or simply listening to his favorite bands, music was a constant in his life.

Ed spent his last years in retirement. He moved to Tennessee in May of 2023. Where he was surrounded by the love of his kids and grandkids, doing all the things he loved. Ed will be deeply missed, but forever remembered for his generous heart, adventurous spirit, and the joy he brought into the lives of all who knew him. As he always said, “You know that’s right.”

Ed is survived by his children, Shawnna (Chris) Morrison, Elizabeth Roberts, Carl

Roberts and Sara Roberts; his grandchildren, Lucas Morrison, Ava Lumpkin, Ansley Lumpkin, Dakota Roberts, Destiny Roberts, Carter Roberts, and Joanna Griffin; and his love, Mara Bolin.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Carl Neal and Rose Marie (Solson)

Roberts.

A celebration of Ed’s life will be held this summer at Chapel Hill Lake.
