Chester Sutherland

Chester “Chet” Sutherland, age 71, of Dunlap passed away at his home on Thursday morning, March 26, 2015. Chet spent many years working in the coal mines, first as a loader man and later as an electrician. He later worked with Archer Daniels Midland in Chattanooga until diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He married his wife, Ruby (Tootie) Parker in 1999. He loved to spend time with family and working in his garden.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, France and Veola Stewart Sutherland; brothers, Carlos, Don and Howard Sutherland; and sisters, Louise Nunley and Barbara Jean Christian.

     He is survived by his wife, Ruby (Tootie) Parker Sutherland; son Dewayne (Nancy) Sutherland; daughter  Tobi (Roger) Kilgore; grandsons, Jacob and Lance Kilgore; granddaughters, Kathleen and Elizabeth Sutherland, Amber (Santiago) Hernandez and Regan Kilgore; great-granddaughter, Mykaela Hernandez; brothers, Clinton (Frances), Wilkie and Lenard (Wanda) Sutherland; sisters, Jo Ann (Berlene) McGlothen, Linda (Ronnie) Hitchcock, all of Dunlap and Brenda (Greg) Griffith, Prosperity, South Carolina; many nieces and nephews. 

    A special mention to his extended families – Georgia Sims; the Boyd family; Mike, Dezerea and Cayden Tate; Franciso Trejo (Chicken), Angelica, Yesheda and Lupita Garcia and many dear cousins and friends all of which helped to enrich his life and create memories. 

    Chet requested in lieu of

flowers that contributions be made to the Sequatchie County Cancer Support Network, Hospice of Chattanooga or the American Heart Association.

     Funeral services were held  Saturday, March 28 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dan Rains and Rev. Terry Barker officiating. Burial was in Sequatchie County Memorial Gardens.
