Mary Dorothy Standefer Harmon

Mary Dorothy Standefer Harmon, 89, of Dunlap, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at her home.

She was born August 8, 1925 to Daniel and Stella Land Standefer and was of the Primitive Baptist faith her entire life. During the 1960’s while her husband, Ray, was sheriff, Ray and Dorothy lived in the jail where Dorothy was the radio dispatcher, jailor and, as TBI, THP, and local law officers would agree, she was also “the cook”.

    Preceding her in death other than her parents were her husband, Ray Harmon; son, E.J. Harmon; step-father, Odis Elliot; brothers, Jerry, Ralph, and Hershel Standefer; and sister, Olena Tate.

    Survivors include her sons, Auby (Barbara) Harmon and Kenneth (Juanita) Harmon; daughters, Joyce (Johnny Farley) Dotson and Brenda (Randall) Summers; grandchildren, Michael (Cheryl) Harmon, Dale (Tara) Harmon, Sheri (Alton) Harmon, Sonya (Jon) Montgomery, Joey (Janet) Harmon, Derek (Cassi) Summers and Alisa Heard; great-grandchildren, Cody, Kyle, Paige, Hali, Danyelle, and Neyland Harmon, Talyn and Raylee Summers, Braxton and Kenneth Heard, Carrie (Steven) Wald, and Lavelle Barker; sister, Jessie Faye (Billy Doyle) Lockhart; daughter-in-law, Millie Harmon; special sister-in-love, Kay Lancaster; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

    Funeral services were held Saturday, September 13 in the funeral home chapel with Jon Montgomery officiating. Burial was in Cagle Cemetery.
