Lewis Carl McDowell

Lewis “Carl” McDowell, 78, of Dunlap passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2013.

He was a man of great wisdom and integrity. Among many other trades and accomplishments, he built and owned McDowell Grocery and Triangle Service Station atop Cagle Mountain. He was firm and hard, but always honest. If he gave you his word, it was as good as writing it on paper. He loved to make a garden and share with his neighbors and friends. Although he was not well for several years, he still made a little garden and spent his last days doing what he loved. He never gave up until the end. He will be missed greatly by family and friends, including his friends at Hardees.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Willis Mae (Minton) McDowell.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Groves McDowell of Dunlap; loving son and daughter, Keith (Sharon) McDowell and Delbra (David) Simmons of Sequatchie; mother of his children, Bonnie McDowell Delashmitt; grandchildren, Kyle, Kaylee and Karly McDowell of Dunlap, Frank (Suzanne) Walker of Spencer, Jannet Schmitt, Andrew (Misty) Walker and Jacqueline Lee, all of Dunlap, Daniel (Stephanie) Walker of Rock Springs, Georgia, Joe and Alex Simmons of Sequatchie; great-grandchildren, Bo, Raylee, Reagan, Levi, Rayanna, Jordan, Jalyn, Jaxton, Joelton, Scheyenne, Leah, Brittney, Colton, Jarrod, Riley, Olivia, Jacob, Jersey, Torie, Curtlyn, Briley and Presley; great-great-granddaughter, Charlie Jane; Peggy’s children, Ben, Nanette and Becky; brothers and sisters, Glenn (Patricia) McDowell, Doris McDowell of Dunlap, Opal (Gene) Glenn of Soddy Daisy and Ophelia (Gary) Ray of Smyrna; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
