Meetings for AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) and NA (Narcotics Anonymous) are held at Dunlap United Methodist Church. AA meetings are Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays at 9:00 a.m. NA meetings are Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. All times are central. The church is located at 1958 Main Street.

The Education Opportunity Center (EOC) provides free assistance to help residents reach their educational and career goals. Marla King, an education advisor with EOC, who formerly assisted students at the Chattanooga State Sequatchie/Bledsoe campus, will now be scheduling appointments at the Sequatchie County/Dunlap Chamber of Commerce on Thursdays, by appointment, from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. General education courses are offered at both Sequatchie and Bledsoe County High Schools. The center serves Bledsoe, Grundy, Hamilton, Marion and Sequatchie counties, and can assist with adult high school completion programs, choosing a college and a major, filing for FAFSA, searching for scholarships and grants, and overcoming federal student loan default. Dinner with the Doctor, planned for Monday, April 9 at 6:00 p.m., features the topic, What Are the Natural Flavors in Your Food? Chuck Cleveland, MPH, will explain how the FDA and Biotech companies are making the answer more complicated. The lecture will include numerous examples of common everyday foods that families are eating and the best way to protect them. Questions and answers will follow. The evening starts with a meal featuring healthy dishes and their recipes. Everything is free and no reservation is needed. Registration at Dunlap Adventist Christian School is now being held. Call the school between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at 949-2920 to make an appointment or to receive an information packet. There is a discount for early registration. Meet the Teachers at the school is planned for Tuesday, April 10 at 6:00 p.m. This is an opportunity to meet the teachers, see the school’s facilities and ask questions. On Thursday, April 19 from 8:00 a.m. until noon, the school is planning a visitation day where children can experience the classrooms and meet teachers and students.

The Cagle community business meeting is set for Tuesday, April 10 at 7:00 p.m. Guest speaker will be Robert Rudy, Cagle Volunteer Fire Department Chief. Everyone is welcome.

The Dunlap Lodge F&AM meets in scheduled regular meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at their Lodge on Cherry Street. The next meeting is scheduled for April 10. Worshipful Master Rex Layne invites all regular Masons to attend.

We Love America, a spring music program, will be presented at Dunlap Adventist Christian School on Thursday, April 12 in the school gym. A dinner will be provided as a fundraiser for the school, beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by the program. The children will be singing patriotic songs, celebrating love of country and thankfulness for America’s freedoms.

Evangelist Rudy Oakes will be preaching revival services at Cartwright Baptist Church, Thursday, April 12 through Saturday, April 14 at 6:00 p.m. There will be special singing in each service.

VFW Post 5772, Dunlap, holds its monthly meetings on the third Tuesday of each month. The executive committee meets at 5:00 p.m. and the general business meeting starts at 6:00. Meetings are held in the Legion Hall on Fredonia Road. All members are encouraged to attend this meeting as nominations for officers will be closed and officers for 2018-2019 will be elected. Music on the Mountain is held at the Cagle Community Center on the third Thursday of each month. A covered dish meal will be served at 5:30 p.m., followed by a jam session in the library for beginning musicians and those who don’t have a group. Griffith Elementary School is holding its preschool screening day on Friday, April 27 from 9:00 a.m. until noon for children ages three and four who are residents of Sequatchie County. There will be screenings for vision, hearing, motor, speech and development, along with games for the kids. Parents/guardians must bring proof of residency in Sequatchie County (electric bill or property tax bill), birth certificate, Social Security card, physical and immunizations on school form, and proof of income (required for some programs). Children are asked to enter through the school’s breezeway, located near the old gym.
