VFW 5772 celebrating 118th anniversary

The Veterans of Foreign Wars, VFW, is celebrating its 118th anniversary on Friday, September 29. Members of the Sequatchie County Memorial VFW Post 5772 will be at Tractor Supply that day to help celebrate VFW Day and talk about the work of the VFW, both locally and throughout the organization. The nation’s oldest major veterans’ organization, the VFW was formed in Columbus, Ohio in 1899 by 13 veterans of the 17th Infantry Regiment who fought on Cuba during the Spanish-American War. Initially called the Veterans of Foreign Service, it merged with two other veterans’ associations in 1914 to form the VFW, which now totals 1.7 million members. TS39
