Event Calendar

The Sequatchie County Friends of the Library invite everyone to Art & the Library, an art exhibition featuring local and regional artists. The show opens May 2, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Dunlap City Training Center with a reception, serving light refreshments. The show will be open May 3 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., May 4 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and May 5 from noon to 4:00 p.m. The reception and show are free. Although the show is part of Valley Fest, a Valley Fest wristband or entry ticket is not required to visit the art show. BT17-18S18

Ewtonville Baptist Church will be observing the National Day of Prayer, Thursday, May 2. Prayer time in the sanctuary will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by lunch in the Family Life Center. Everyone is invited to join the church in praying for the nation, state and local officials, churches, families and communities. T17-18S18

A handmade quilt will be given away at the Art and the Library art exhibition that takes place during Valley Fest each year at the City Hall Training Center. Admission to the art show is free, but tickets for the quilt can purchased for $1 each, six for $5 or 25 for $20. Winner need not be present to win. The quilt, designed and created by Holly Scroggin, People’s Choice winner at last year’s Sequatchie County Quilt Show, is 81 inches by 92 inches with a design of books on a shelf. T17-18S18

A spring revival with Evangelist Drew Eastes will be held May 3-5 at Restoration Pointe Church of God. Services on Friday and Saturday begin at 6:00 p.m., and Sunday service starts at 10:00 a.m. T18

   Sequatchie Valley Community Band practice is held the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the middle school band room. This is a concert band and open to anyone in the valley or surrounding area who plays a wind or percussion instrument. All experience levels are welcome. A cowboy music program will be presented at the Dunlap Adventist Christian School on Thursday, May 9 at 6:00 p.m., beginning with a light supper, followed by music with the Gaston family and children singing cowboy music. Everyone is invited to join in this special evening. T19

The Sequatchie County High School Alumni Association will hold its annual banquet on Saturday, May 11 at 6:00 p.m. in the commons area of the high school.   Hixson Cemetery decoration will be held Saturday, May 11.  There will be a short business meeting at 11:00 a.m. Contributions for the upkeep of the cemetery can be made that day or mailed to Nancy C. Dawson, 2678 Kelly Crossroads, Dunlap, TN 37327. T19

Sequatchie County Friends of the Library (FOTL) has changed its meeting place for the Tuesday, May 14 meeting to the Sequatchie County Fair building. The meeting will be held at 4:00 p.m. T19

  Music on the Mountain at the Cagle Community Center is set for Thursday, May 16. A meal will be served at 5:30 p.m., and music with Just Country will begin at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is invited. T19S20

Decoration at Old Union Cemetery in Dunlap will be held Saturday, May 18 at 10:00 a.m. with a business meeting to follow at 11:00 a.m. Anyone unable to attend, can send donations for the upkeep of the cemetery to Old Union Cemetery, c/o Sue Harmon, 2235 Old Union Road, Dunlap, TN 37327.BT19S20

Decoration at McWilliams Cemetery on Kelly Crossroad is set for Saturday, May 18, weather permitting. A covered dish lunch will be held. If unable to attend, send donations to Beth Basham, 82 Basham Road, Whitwell, TN 37397. T19S20

The monthly meeting of the Sequatchie County Fair will be held on Thursday night, May 23, at the Fair building on Heard Street at 6:00 p.m. T21

Decoration at Bryant Cemetery in the Daus community is Sunday, May 26. Contributions for the upkeep of the cemetery can be made to Bryant Cemetery and mailed to Gail Rogers, 283 Bryant Road, Whitwell, TN 37397. T20S21

Decoration Day at Harvey Cemetery is Sunday, May 26. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish and drinks for lunch at noon. Donations will be collected for the upkeep of the cemetery on this day. BT21

The second annual SETHRA-CASA Rodeo is planned for Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Sequatchie County Fairgrounds. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for children ages 6-11, and children 5 and under are free. Concessions will be sold.T22

A yard sale to benefit the Sequatchie County Band Program will be held Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1 at the pavilion in front of high school.
