  • Propagation Class planned for March 9

    The Sequatchie Valley Master Gardeners and UT Extension will be hosting a Propagation Class on Saturday, March 9 at 10:00 a.m. at Dunlap United Methodist Church, 1958 Main Street. Carol Mathews, an accomplished master gardener, speaker, and leader for the Hamilton County Master Gardeners, and has presented numerous classes in the Chattanooga area, the Master Gardeners state convention and the Master Gardeners international convention, will be sharing her expertise and passion for propagation. The class is open to the public. Contact the Extension office at 423-949-2611 to reserve an information packet for the program.

  • Boy Scouts having fundraising breakfast

    Boy Scout Troop 33 will host a fundraising breakfast on Saturday, March 9 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Dunlap United Methodist Church to raise funds for summer camp. The menu includes scrambled eggs, biscuits, gravy, sausage, hash browns, pancakes and choice of juice, coffee or milk. Cost is $6 per person. Eggs to order are $1 extra.2T9-10S10

  • Pond management planned

    On March 12, 2019, a Bledsoe and Sequatchie County Pond Management Field Day is being held at Perry Swafford’s Farm, near 6868 Lower East Valley Road in Pikeville (0.4 miles north of College Station Road). Aquatic weed management, fish sampling demonstration and stocking rates, pond sealing options and conservation programs are the topics to be discussed. A meal will be provided and door prizes given at this free event. For more information or to make reservations, call the UT Extension Bledsoe County office at (423) 447-2451.   • Band Clinic this week

    The first Sequatchie Valley Small Band Clinic will be held Friday and Saturday, March 15-16 at Sequatchie County Middle School for bands from Bledsoe, Whitwell, South Pittsburg and Sequatchie. Registration and orientation begin Friday at 4:00 p.m., followed by rehearsals with clinicians at 5:00, pizza at 7:00, a concert by TTU Tuba Ensemble at 8:00, and dismissal at 9:00. Saturday’s schedule is rehearsal at 9:00 a.m., lunch at noon, rehearsals from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., dinner at 4:00, final rehearsal at 5:00, and a concert in the high school auditorium at 7:00. Admission is free to both concerts. BT11

    The annual meeting of the Sequatchie County Fair will be held Thursday night, March 28 at 6:00. Those in attendance will be celebrating the good happenings of the 2018 Fair and planning the 2019 Fair. Refreshments will be served. The Fair building is located on Heard Street in Dunlap.T11S12

  • Neuter Scooter fundraiser scheduled

    A chili dog fundraiser for Dunlap Neuter Scooter is planned for Saturday, March 30 at Tractor Supply in Dunlap from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Plates are $5 each and will include a chili dog, chips and drink. On hand will be Alisa, dog whispererette, to answer questions about dog behavior, and Emily Raines from MARC to speak about fostering fur babies. Dunlap Neuter Scooter is a non-profit free service.
