The Southeast Tennessee Human Resource Agency (SETHRA) is accepting applications for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The program year begins on October 1, 2019 and will end September 30, 2020. To apply for the program, call the SETHRA office at 949-2191 to schedule an appointment. The program accepts applications year-round and clients can apply any time between now and September 30, 2020. For questions, additional information or to see if you qualify, call the number above. A yard sale fundraiser for Trail Life USA Troop 1613 of Dunlap will be held Saturday, October 5 from 7:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Southend Fire Hall on Hwy. 28. T40

The next Cagle community business meeting is set for Tuesday, October 8 at 7:00 p.m. After the regular business meeting, a special presentation by the Sequatchie County Sheriff’s Department on the opioid crisis will be given, followed by a question and answer session. Everyone is welcome. The community center is located at 8208 Hwy. 111, next to the Cagle Volunteer Fire Department. T40S41

Flat Mountain Baptist Church is having a jam session on Saturday, October 12 at 6:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome to play music and sing. The church is located on Fredonia Road. T40-41S41

On Saturday, October 12, the Lone Oak Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Fire Prevention Open House from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. ET. This event will include a light breakfast, home fire safety and home medical safety information, demonstrations, lunch, and water fun, where participants learn the basics of hose handling, pump operations and incident command, followed by a landing demonstration by Life Force Air Medical.

The Cagle Mountain Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a fire prevention open house on Saturday, October 12 from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. There will be free food, climb a truck and fire education. Everyone is welcome. T41

Names are now being accepted for the Sequatchie County Veterans Memorial Park Wall. Honorably discharged veterans, who are past or present residents of Sequatchie County, will need their DD-214 and $100 cash or check. Deadline is October 17, 2019 and names will be added prior to Veterans Day on November 11. Signature bricks, $50 each, will be added to the Park in October. The Veterans office is located at 171 Church Street in Dunlap. Hours are Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Mailing address is P.O. Box 1565, Dunlap, TN 37327. Music on the Mountain will be held Thursday, October 17 with a covered dish dinner at 5:30 p.m., followed by music by Cody McCarver at 6:30. A jam session will continue in the library after the meal. All are invited to come and enjoy good food, music and fellowship. T41S42

Boy Scout Troop 33 will host a tailgate fundraiser on Friday, October 18 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Tractor Supply in Dunlap. The menu will include a hamburger, chips, drink and dessert for $5 per plate. All proceeds go toward summer camp and other activities throughout the year for the troop. The Fredonia Community Center will be serving a country breakfast on Saturday, October 19 from 7:00 to 10:00 a.m. A donation of $6 per person for all you can eat scrambled eggs, sausage patties, bacon, sausage gravy, biscuits, grits, coffee, milk and orange juice. All proceeds support the community center and fire department.

The Sequatchie County Fair will meet Thursday night, October 24, at 6:00 p.m. at the Fair building on Heard Street. Planning for next year’s Fair will be discussed. T42S43

The Dunlap Lions Club will hold its annual Taste of the Valley Dinner and Auction to benefit local service projects on Saturday, October 26 at Sequatchie County High School. The event will consist of a “build your own” meal featuring signature dishes from local restaurants as well as silent and live auctions. Auction items will include legal, medical, automotive and recreational services as well as gift baskets and collectibles. Dinner and the silent auction will begin at 5:00 pm, followed by the live auction at 6:00. Tickets can be purchased at the Dunlap Chamber of Commerce, the County Executive’s office or at the door. Children under 10 eat free.

Trunk or Treat at Dunlap United Methodist Church will be held Sunday, October 27 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. There will be games, caramel apples, a coloring contest and a Halloween selfie booth. T43

Trick or Treat at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church is planned for Halloween night, October 31, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the church gym. There will be food, games and inflatable. Trunk or Treat on the Mountain is planned for Thursday, October 31 at 4:00 p.m. at the Cagle Community Center.
