    First Baptist Church of Dunlap is a collection site for Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international Christian relief and evangelism organization headed by Franklin Graham. Participants can fill shoe boxes with toys, school supplies, hygiene items and notes of encouragement to send to children around the world. Collection dates and times are November 14-18 from noon until 4:00 p.m., November 19-20 from noon until 2:00 p.m. and November 21 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The church is located at 12 Church Street.T45S46

  • Historical Association plans Nov. 17 meeting

    The Sequatchie Valley Historical Association will be hosting an appreciation program for Dunlap’s American Legion Post 190 and Restoration Committee on Thursday, November 17. They will be honored for all of the labor, commitment and contributions given to the Veterans Memorial Park. The program begins at 6:00 p.m. at the Coke Ovens Park and will take place in the museum building. A reception will follow the scheduled agenda. The public is invited.     Cowboy Church at the Tennessee Guest Ranch is held on the second Saturday of each month, through November, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with food, fellowship and fun. The next church service is planned for April 9 and includes free pony rides for children 12 and under, chuck wagon chow appetizers for the family and meet the horses in the stables. At 6:00 p.m., its Cowboy Church with a live horse presentation, music and a message (rain or shine, indoor facilities available).   • Hike Against Hunger held at Savage Gulf

    Hike Against Hunger, a ranger-led 4.2 mile hike on the Savage Day Loop Trail, will be held Friday, November 25 to raise donations and funds for the Sequatchie County Food Bank. Participants will learn about the history of the area and the plants and animals that make a home on the Southern Cumberland Plateau and visit Rattlesnake Point, a beautiful overlook of Savage Gulf. Everyone will meet at the Savage Gulf Ranger Station, 3157 SR 399, in Palmer.     American Legion Post 190, Dunlap, holds its monthly meetings on the last Tuesday of each month. The executive committee meets at 5:00 p.m. and the general business meeting starts at 6:00 p.m. Meetings are held in the Legion Hall on Fredonia Road. All members are encouraged to attend. Any veteran interested in  joining the American Legion or learning more about the organization and the benefits of membership is encouraged to attend a general business meeting. T47S47
