$496,400 grant to fight Dunlap water loss

     The City of Dunlap has received a Community Development Block Grant of $496,400 to assist in upgrades to the city’s water system. Schmitt signs with Bryan

Jalyn Schmitt, a 2018 graduate of Sequatchie County High School, will continue her education and softball career at Bryan College. Grants to aid students at SCHS

The Sequatchie County School System will be aided by two large grants, announced last week. Funding of $99,999 from J.P. Morgan Chase is now available for the purchase of state-of-the-art virtual welding equipment. A grant of $34,272 through the Perkins Reserve will be used to start a Mechatronics Engineering program at Sequatchie County High School.…

    VBS at Ebeneze Baptist Church

    Vacation Bible School, Game On – Gearing Up for Life’s Big Game, at Ebenezer Baptist Church will be held Sunday, July 8 through Friday, July 13 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Bible classes will be held for Pre-K through teens, along with games, crafts and music.     Basketball camp at high school

    Sequatchie County High School is holding a youth basketball camp, July 9-11, from 8:00 a.m. until noon. The camp is for boys and girls from Sequatchie County and surrounding areas from kindergarten through entering eighth grade. Cost is $60, with a discount for siblings. Registration can be done online at the Sequatchie County Youth Basketball Facebook page. Each participant receives a T-shirt.     Business meeting for Fredonia cancelled

       The monthly business meeting for the Fredonia Community Center will not be held due to the following candidate forum dates. Candidates for sheriff on July 10, road superintendent candidates on July 17, and candidates for county executive, circuit court clerk and trustee on July 24. All times are 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. All Sequatchie County residents are welcome to attend and meet the candidates.

    Dunlap Lodge to meet Tuesday, July 10

    The Dunlap Lodge F&AM meets in scheduled regular meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at their Lodge on Cherry Street. The next meeting is scheduled for July 10. Worshipful Master Rex Layne invites all regular Masons to attend.

    Fredonia community preparing for forum

    The Fredonia Mountain Community Center is sponsoring a candidate forum for Sequatchie County candidates to be held on the following dates: July 10, candidates for sheriff; July 17, road superintendent candidates; and July 24, candidates for county executive, circuit court clerk and trustee. All times are 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend these forums and meet the candidates. The community center is located at 5242 Fredonia Road in Dunlap.

    Hee-Haw shows set

         The Sequatchie County Cancer Support Network will be presenting its annual Hee Haw Show on July 12-14 at 7:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Cost for admittance is $10 at the door or tickets can be purchased before the event at Citizens Tri-County Bank, Mountain Valley Bank, Chamber of Commerce, Bouffant Beauty Salon and Sew Sweet. Proceeds from this event go to help cancer patients in Sequatchie County. 4T25-28S26-28

    Next Cowboy Church to be held August 11

    All day

    Cowboy Church at the Tennessee Guest Ranch is held on the second Saturday of each month, through November, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with food, fellowship and fun. The next church service is planned for August 11 and includes free pony rides for children 12 and under, chuck wagon chow appetizers for the family and meet the horses in the stables. At 6:00 p.m., its Cowboy Church with a live horse presentation, music and a message (rain or shine, indoor facilities available).
