Chance sighting leads to scenes filmed at Coke Ovens

Vice Mayor Johnson passes away

Jeff B. Johnson, Vice-Mayor of Dunlap and member of the Dunlap City Commission, passed away unexpectedly Monday, October 8. Johnson, 46, was Senior Vice-President and Chief Lending Office of Mountain Valley Bank and was active in a number of community organizations.     Grace Bible Church having Pastor Appreciation

    Pastor Appreciation Day at Grace Bible Church is Sunday, April 15. Crystle Elam will be singing at 10:00 a.m., followed by a worship service at 11:00. The church invites everyone to attend this special day as they honor Pastor Wayne Miller.

    Gospel meeting scheduled for April 15-17

    A gospel meeting at Hall church of Christ will be held Sunday, April 15 through Tuesday, April 17. Sunday services are Bible study at 10:00 a.m. and worship at 11:00, and Sunday through Tuesday evenings at 7:00. Roy Clark will be speaking Sunday morning, Keith Pickett on Sunday night, Dale Barger on Monday night and Ron Gilbert on Tuesday night.

    VFW meets on third Tuesday of each month

    All day

    VFW Post 5772, Dunlap, holds its monthly meetings on the third Tuesday of each month. The executive committee meets at 5:00 p.m. and the general business meeting starts at 6:00. Meetings are held in the Legion Hall on Fredonia Road. All members are encouraged to attend this meeting as nominations for officers will be closed and officers for 2018-2019 will be elected. Veterans interested in joining the VFW or learning more about the organization and the benefits of membership are encouraged to attend a general business meeting.     Music on the Mountain held April 19

    All day

    Music on the Mountain is held at the Cagle Community Center on the third Thursday of each month. A covered dish meal will be served at 5:30 p.m., followed by a jam session in the library for beginning musicians and those who don’t have a group. Gospel music with the Agee family will be held at 6:30. This is a free concert. Anyone interested in playing and/or singing is welcome to join.     A rummage sale at Dunlap United Methodist Church is planned for Saturday, April 21 from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Giveaways will be held at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. All proceeds support Venturing Crew 2033 and Boy Scout Troop 33.
