Key arrested in school threat, statutory rape

A young Dunlap man accused of making a threat to Sequatchie County High was charged with filing a false report. During an interview with police, he reportedly admitted to having unlawful physical contact with a teen. Zachary Damian Key, 19, now faces an additional charge of statutory rape.     MACC changes date for painting/pottery exhibit

    Due to last week’s weather, the Painting and Pottery Exhibit, presented by the Mountain Arts Community Center students and mentors, has been rescheduled for January 13–27. The show and sale features original art work. The opening reception has been changed to January 13 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The MACC is located at 809 Kentucky Avenue on Signal Mountain and is open during regular hours, Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Friday, 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. T2

    VFW meets on third Tuesday of each month

    VFW Post 5772, Dunlap, holds its monthly meetings on the third Tuesday of each month. The executive committee meets at 5:00 p.m. and the general business meeting begins at 6:00. Meetings are held in the Legion Hall on Fredonia Road. All members are encouraged to attend. Any veteran interested in joining the VFW or learning more about the organization and the benefits of membership, is encouraged to attend a general business meeting. S3

    Prayer revival planned for January 24, 25 & 26

    Lighthouse Pentecostal Church of Dunlap is planning its annual prayer revival for January 24-26 at 7:00 p.m. The church will be having focused prayer for city, county, state and national leaders, our schools and families, and the nation of Israel. A communion service will conclude the prayer revival on Thursday night. Everyone is welcome. For more information, call Pastor Kevin Benoit at 949-5629.     FOTL to hold its annual meeting on January 26

    Sequatchie County Friends of the Library (FOTL) will hold its annual meeting on Thursday, January 26 at 6:00 p.m. at the City Hall Training Center. The meeting is free and open to the public. Featured speakers will be Jimmy Yellowhorse, a Cherokee woodcarver, and Tammera Hicks, an advocate of Cherokee heritage. Refreshments will be provided.     SETHRA offering free tax preparation to public

    SETHRA (Southeast Tennessee Human Resources Agency) is offering free tax preparation for the public. The VITA site will open January 30, 2017 and remain open until March 17. This site is by appointment only. Call 949-2191, ext. 170 to schedule an appointment for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Volunteers are IRS VITA certified. For appointments, bring a valid state ID, Social Security cards for everyone and current year’s paperwork. Previous years’ returns are helpful if available.BT5S5
