Margaret Ann Bonner Johnson

Margaret Ann Bonner Johnson passed away February 10, 2024 surrounded by her family.

She was born in 1935 in Ringgold Georgia, a small town just outside of Chattanooga, Tennessee. She married Stuart Johnson in 1962 and they moved to a suburb of Birmingham, Alabama in 1980. Together they raised three children.

She was an amazing cook and could throw parties like no one else. She enjoyed showing her love to others through her cooking. It wasn’t unheard of for her to host a dinner party on a Saturday night and a brunch on Sunday morning. She hosted many dinners, birthday and graduation parties. She would spend weeks decorating her home for Christmas and was known for spreading Christmas cheer by hosting amazing holiday open houses. She was an avid collector of cookbooks and loved trying out new recipes. She authored her own cookbook, which is comprised of hundreds of her favorite recipes.

She and Stuart were founding members of Riverchase United Methodist Church in Hoover, Alabama. She was an avid gardener and loved spending time with her animals. She was a frequent volunteer at Shelby County Humane Society and was on the board of directors there for many years. She was also on the board of Family Connection Inc. and spent many hours there volunteering. She was the best “YaYa” to her grandchildren and was always up for an adventure with them.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Britton and Bessie Barnfield Bonner; her beloved husband of 51 years, Cecil Stuart Johnson (2013); her daughter, Rebecca Ann Barrette (2020); and her son, Jason Stuart Johnson (2022).

She is survived by her daughter Jennifer Johnson Luteran (husband Thomas) and grandchildren, Erin Kathleen, Molly Ann and Trent Thomas.

She will be dearly missed but we know she is in a better place where she is once again reunited with her loved ones.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 17 at the historical Chapel Hill Church with Pastor Jared Wood officiating. Burial followed in Chapel Hill Cemetery.
