VFW given rifle of WWII hero

At 14, Sgt. Milton Sutherland from Sequatchie County was among the youngest Tennesseans to serve in World War II, and after returning from overseas, returned to service again, this time being drafted. His daughter, Janis Sutherland Spanger, recently donated her father’s color guard rifle to the VFW Post 5772.

“This rifle was utilized by Milton during post war ceremonies such as military funerals and parades,” explained Post Commander Johnny Cordell.
