Evelyn Cato

Evelyn Simmons Cato, 82, of Whitwell, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016. 

She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Order of The Eastern Star. She has also participated in the Women’s Club, Senior Citizens, Relay for Life as a cancer survivor in Kentucky, and Extension Homemaker of Tennessee.  

Mrs. Cato was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin George Cato; daughter, Jahwanda Cato Callahan; parents, Sam and Reba Rice Simmons; sisters, Mildred Bitzel and Sylvia Frye; and nephew, Mike Frye.

Survivors include her children, Johlene Cato (Dale) Brewer, Alvin G. Cato Jr., Rosemary (Ron) Ledford, Bethany Cato, and Stephanie Cato; brothers, Louis Simmons, David Simmons, Jack Simmons, and Sam Simmons Jr.; sisters, Treva Mabbitt and Louise Kincaid; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 26 in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Daniel Willoughby officiating. Burial followed in Sequatchie County Memorial Gardens. 

Pallbearers were Jason Kitner, Jacob Kitner, Jeff Simmons, Joe Simmons, Josh Cato, and Jon Brewer. Honorary pallbearer was Ron Scheiber.
