James Carl “Jim” Lawson, 69, of Dunlap, formerly of Spencer, died Sunday, February 28, 2016.
Jim was born December 18, 1946 in Campaign, Tennessee. He graduated from Van Buren County High School in 1964 and joined the U.S. Navy a week later, serving 22 years and retiring at the rank of CW03. He received a degree from State Technical Institute and also Tennessee Tech in Cookeville. After his retirement, he pursued his passion for farming and cattle, and in later years worked for Skyline Coal Company until the mine’s closure.
Jim was a Christian and a fun, loving person. He expressed great care for his family, his friends, animals of all types and any child he could find to tease.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Maggie Lawson; sister, Carolyn; and brothers, Wayne and Wade Lawson.
Survivors include his companion, Elise Young of Dunlap; brother, Woody (Susie) Lawson of Hixson; sister-in-law, Rubye Lawson of Spencer; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 2 in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Bob McCoy officiating. Burial followed in Shockley Cemetery with full military honors.
