John Thomas Rolfes, 68, died on September 4, 2013, after a lengthy illness.
He was born on Jan. 14, 1945 and served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War in 1965-66. He was employed by Consolidated Freightways, a trucking company for 38 years. He jokingly would say the “T” in his name stood for trucking. He worked in various capacities, but mostly as linehaul manager or assistant manager, which consisted of overseeing the over-the-road truck drivers. He worked in Cincinnati and was sent to Nashville to set up the department and oversee the transfer when the company moved most of their drivers to Nashville in February, 1983. He worked closely with all the other departments of the company and helped train numerous supervisors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Katherine Hinnigar and John Herman Rolfes, who resided in Cincinnati, Ohio; and two sisters, Dorothy Fothergill and Loretta Cain.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Nancy Denise Rolfes of Dunlap; three sons, John, Jr (Connie), Steven James (Laura), and Christopher Mark (Brittany); grandchildren, John Thomas Rolfes III, Thomas Ryan Parton, Steven James Rolfes, Abigail Rose Rolfes and Kylee Rolfes; and several nieces and nephews. John had two canine pals that he dearly loved and both Scruffy and MooMoo will miss him terribly.
Funeral services were held Saturday, September 7 in the funeral home chapel with Ron Crary officiating. Burial was in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Honorary pallbearers were the Linehaul Staff of Consolidated Freightways.
Chattanooga Funeral Home Crematory and Florist in Hixson was in charge of arrangements.
