Jim Presto
Charles Rex “Jim” Presto, 65, of Dunlap passed away Friday morning, November 16, at his home in his wife’s arms surrounded by his family.
He was born in Spangler, Pennsylvania on March 2, 1947 to Charles Rex Presto Sr. and Della Patterson Presto, who preceded him in death, along with his brother-in-law, Joe Mayse of Ohio and father-in-law, Ralph Layman of Dunlap.
At the age of six, his family moved to Painesville, Ohio, where he grew up, then moved to Dunlap. He and his wife ran Jim’s Garage and Wrecker Service in Dunlap for over 30 years. He was a disabled Vietnam Veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He received a purple heart after being wounded in heavy fighting in 1968. He was a wonderful and caring husband, dad and pa and will be sadly missed by his family.
Survivors include his wife, Sheila Layman Presto; sons, Jeff Presto and Trent Burtrum; daughters, Tammi Presto Hurd and Sheri Presto Reed; sisters, Susan (Joseph) Salgado and Lori (Bernie) Long of Ohio; grandchildren, Brett, Sam, Shelby and Madison, Wyatt and Brandon; mother-in-law, Arrietta Layman; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 19 in the funeral home chapel with preacher and friend, James Helton officiating. Rowena Burtrum, daughter-in-law, sang. Burial was held in Mansfield Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard.
Serving as pallbearers were son Trent Burtrum, Brett Skyles, Brandon Williford, Justin Ferry, Zack Layman, Wyatt Presto and Daniel Bunch.
