James E. “Jim” Long, Sr
James E. “Jim” Long, Sr., of Orlando, Florida departed this life to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 22, 2012. He was born May 5, 1934 in Dunlap.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William B. and Maebelle Long; and by his son, Michael S. Long in June of 2011.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Vivian; and his son, Ed and wife, Katie; daughter, Kay Koger and husband, Lee; brothers Larry (Nelda) Long of Longwood, Florida, Calvin (Linda) Long of Inglis, Florida; sisters Wanda Cagle (RJ) of Dunlap, Pat Shaw (Bill) of Jackson, Georgia, Sandra Hansen (Frank) of Jackson, Georgia, Clara McKinney (Phil) of Reno, Nevada; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Jim committed his life to Christ on April 6, 1958. He was ordained into the ministry in 1966. He was the pastor of First Missionary Baptist Church of Bithlo for 20 years. He served and taught at Monterey Baptist and Calvary Baptist Churches until he was unable to do so. He also completed his apprenticeship training for the electrical trade and retired from the local IBEW 606 Union after 43 years. He will always be remembered as the preacher who passed out gospel tracts to everyone he met.
Funeral services were held June 30 at Calvary Baptist Church in Orlando, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vitas Hospice.
