Harold Gene Heard

Harold Gene Heard, 76, lifelong resident of Dunlap, went home to be with the Lord, March 7, 2012.

He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, where he served on many committees and was a longtime deacon, presently serving as Deacon Emeritus. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Chattanooga and served as chaplain for the Sequatchie Valley Scottish Rite club before his health prevented it. He was a member of Dunlap Lodge #693 F&AM and a longtime member of American Legion Post 190. He retired from Combustion Engineering after 31 years and did plumbing and handyman jobs around town with his brother, Carl, which he really enjoyed. He adored his daughters and grandchildren.

His parents, Judd and Velma Heard; sister, Lillian Jarrell; and brothers, Charles, Carl and Raymond Heard, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Anna Faye Heard; two daughters, Valarie Swafford of Soddy Daisy and Erika (Dr. Landon) Greer of Dunlap; sisters, Bobbie Blake and Sandra (Burton) Leuty of Hixson, Vivian (Jim) Long of Orlando, Florida and Wanda (Tommy) Runyon of Soddy Daisy; brothers, Kenneth (Mary) Heard of Hixson and Larry (Nancy) Heard of Calhoun, Georgia; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 10 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Gholson and Dr. Fred Steelman officiating.

Burial was in Sequatchie County Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Sequatchie County Cancer Support Network; The Kidney Foundation of Greater Chattanooga, 1020 Dallas Road, Suite 401, Chattanooga, TN 37405; Dunlap First Baptist building fund or Sequatchie County Public Library.
