Louise Johnson

Lennie Louise Bare Johnson, 93 of Dunlap passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2011. 

She was born November 25, 1917 in Birchwood to Lennie Mae Holman Bare and James Doyle Bare. She graduated from Birchwood High School and Carson-Newman College. She was married to Overton Mac Johnson on  June 13, 1954.

Mrs. Johnson taught in Hamilton County Schools during her entire career. She was a member of Dunlap United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and taught the Johnson-Harris Sunday School class. She also was active in the Tennessee Retired Teachers Association, the Sequatchie County Public Library Board, Dunlap Book Club and Sequatchie County Historical Association. She and her late husband, Overton Johnson, were honored with a dedicated room at the Coke Ovens Museum in Dunlap in appreciation for their tireless work for the association.

Her husband and her parents preceded her in death.

She is survived by one son, Philip Overton Johnson and daughter-in-law, Lisa Heard Johnson; granddaughters, Ashley Meredith Johnson Overley and Laura Claire Johnson Jones and their spouses, Matt Robert Overley and Allen William Jones; great-granddaughters, Claire Eleanor Jones and Meredith Ann Jones; step-daughter, Claire Josephine Johnson Lovelace and her husband, David Herman Lovelace; grandson, David Brock Lovelace and wife, Kari Jean Pappas Lovelace; great-grandsons, William Gray Lovelace and Matthew Wright Lovelace; three sisters, Elizabeth Randolph of Birchwood, Helen Thigpen of Birmingham, Alabama and Dorothy Colson of Chattanooga.

A Celebration of Life was held Sunday, October 23 at Dunlap United Methodist church with Bro. Gerald Casson officiating. Burial was in Rankin Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Overton Johnson Scholarship Fund at Dunlap United Methodist Church or the Sequatchie County Historical Association.
