Murphy Grant

Murphy Allen Grant, 95, a lifelong resident of Lewis Chapel, went home to be with the Lord on May 27, 2011.

He was preceded in death by his sons, Darwin Winford and Allen Leon Grant; parents, William Thomas and Prescilla Harvey Grant; brothers, Standifer, Colonel, Marvin and Claude Grant; and sisters, Aldenia Ables and Hester Green.

Survivors include his wife of over 75 years, Bessie Viola Swanger Grant; daughters, Ester Lee and Audry (Bryan) Gibson of Dunlap; sons, Vernon Eugene “Gene” (Ruby) Grant and Ellis Elbert “Snooke” (Martha) Grant of Lewis Chapel; sisters, Viola Young and Naomi Fredricks of Soddy Daisy; 25 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and special nephews, James and Claude Grant.

Funeral services were held Sunday, May 29 in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Michael Grant and Bro. Jason Stephenson officiating.

Serving as pallbearers were Marty, Randy and Rocky Grant, Daniel Stephenson, Larry Lee and Elija Gibson.

Burial was in Varner Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Sequatchie County Cancer Support Network.
