Estelle Smith

Estelle Durham Smith, 91, formerly of South Pittsburg, died at the home of her granddaughter in Summerfield, Florida on Wednesday, April 13, 2011.

The third of eight children born to the late Charlie Hope and Fannie Lee Reeves Durham, she was a longtime member of Antioch Baptist Church in New Hope. A native of the New Hope community in South Pittsburg, she spent 16 years in Hazel Park, Michigan, then returned to the South Pittsburg area in the late 1970s. Following the death of her husband of 43 years, Woodrow Smith, she moved to Belleview, Florida, where she spent the last 20 years of her life.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Roxie Durham Smith; son-in-law, Larry Cunningham; and brother, Leonard Durham.

She is survived by children, Vicki (Gary) Gott of Belleview, Ernest (Rose) Smith of Whitwell, Catherine Cunningham of Fort Worth, Texas and David (Linda) Smith of Jasper; grandchildren, Dennis Adams of Royal Oak, Michigan, Sheila Ullery of Summerfield, Florida, Gary Smith of Knoxville, Beverly Smith Lockhart of Whitwell and Emily Smith Cameron of Houghton Lake, Michigan; eight great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Christine Price of South Pittsburg, Elma Sue Pellam of Albertville, Alabama and Opal Lehr of Tampa, Florida; brothers, Houston (Alma) Durham and Melton Durham, both of South Pittsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 18 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Paul D. Smith and Rev. Owen Durham officiating.

Burial was in New Hope Cemetery.
