Mildred Heard Maynard, 98, of Dunlap died in a local hospital, Thursday, October 21, 2010.
She was the daughter of Joe and Della Heard and married Hurl Maynard in 1932. They lost their only child at birth.
She has been very involved in her church all her life, being a member of the Dorcas Club, Women’s Society of Christian Service. She taught classes for many, many years before her health declined. She and her husband were youth leaders in her church and had many girls she called her own. Her door was always open and many called her home their second home.
After her husband died, Mildred enrolled in a nurse’s class at Sequatchie General Hospital. She became certified and started a career as a nurse and stayed for 15 years before her retirement in 1981.
She is survived by nieces, nephews, and a great-niece and caregiver, June (Don) Boynton.
Private grave side services were held Friday, October 22 at Rankin Cemetery with Bro. Gerald Casson officiating.
