Donald Stocker

    Donald Ray Stocker, 74, of Palmer passed from this life on August 5, 2009 at his home after an extended illness, surrounded by family.
    He was a loving husband and father and known as an expert fiddle player (winning several championships), a theologian, and widely known for his collection and preservation of rare apple tree varieties. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Lewis Stocker; and his brother, Jarris Stocker.
    Survivors include his wife, Dean Turner Stocker; mother, Norma Mae Sitz Stocker; sons, Brian Randolph Stocker and Joe Davis (Melissa) Stocker; daughters, Mona Ray (Bob) White, all of Palmer, and Judy Lynn (Charles) Barnett of Cagle Mountain; step-sons, Gene (Jackie) Myers of Harrison, Mike (Darlene) Myers of Fort Oglethorpe and Tommy Myers of East Ridge; brothers, Russell Lewis Stocker of Palmer and James (Betty) Stocker of Kennisville,  North Carolina; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held Friday, August 7, 2009 in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Michael Grant officiating.
    Burial was in Collier Cemetery.
