A new business focused on women’s overall health has opened its doors to the public. Get Fit held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday, December 3 on Rankin Avenue to celebrate. “We feel the community has needed a program dedicated to fitness for women,” said Get Fit Manager Marie-Ann Bower. The business, started through a partnership between Bower and Phyliss Holcomb, is located across from Wal-Mart on U.S. Highway 127. It officially opened Monday, November 9 and workouts started on Wednesday, November 11. “Our 30-minute workout circuit is focused on building and toning lean, healthy muscles and giving ladies a good environment to work out in,” explained Bower. Get Fit is open from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. throughout the week, and Circuit Trainer Sharon Kilgore said, the business offers more than fitness. “We do use resistance training, without bulky weights, to train the body, along with aerobic exercise in between each machine, but we also give ladies a place to socialize and meet new people,” said Kilgore. The trainer explained, a friendly community-type environment is what sets Get Fit apart from other health centers. Unlike most health and fitness-based businesses, Get Fit does not offer any long-term contracts for membership. Instead, noted Bower, members pay a flat rate of $30 per month. “We are also awaiting approval for the Silver Sneakers program,” said Bower. “This will allow our elderly members to take advantage of the program through Medicare.” Senior citizens using the Silver Sneakers Program can have up to ten exercise routines paid for per month through Medicare. In the meantime, seniors who are qualified to be on the Silver Sneakers Program pay a flat rate of $20 per month. “All our rates are flat rates. No taxes added to it and no membership fees,” explained Bower. “We want to be easy, convenient and helpful.” For more information on the local business, visit Get Fit on U.S. Highway 127 or call 949-7690.
